Without the Space Needle, Seattle, Washington's skyline becomes just another city-skyline.
Without the Transamerica Building, San Fansisco's skyline becomes just another city-skyline.

60 years?
The World Trade Center was around for 30 years. 
Is it being rebuilt?
No.
The Empire State Building has been around for more than 60 years.
If it was knocked down would IT be rebuilt?
You never know. Don't be too quick to answer.
The White House:
Construction started in October 1792.
The first occupant resided there in 1800.
It was completely "burned down" in 1814. (only the outside walls remained)
It was rebuilt.
Destroyed after only 14 years.
Rebuilt.
